LETTERS TO DEATH

Sikiru Abdullateef Oyelami (The Mighty Inker)
I have written thousands
Of letters more,
I have waited for
Your reply,
I have stayed up
All midnight,
Wash of the slumber
And stared at the sky
I have called out
Your name.
I have imagined how you’d
Come unto me,
Either by morning, when
The birds sing,
Or by sundown, when
Silent screams.
But why?
Haven’t you seen my
Messages?
Haven’t you heard my
Scream?
Didn’t my voice echo through
Veil of days?
And reach your domain
Of doom?
Now I have given up,
I have accepted the pain
And forget
I once called you
But why, O Death, did
You come for me now?

Barakallahu feek Brother Ahmad. May Allah grant our youth steadfastness in learning and practice.
Jazakumullahu Khayran to the editorial team. The references from Surah Taha were especially grounding.
