PATIENCE: A PRIVILEGE

By: Hanat Oladele

Do you know when you are closest to your Lord?
Do you know when you most cherish your forehead kissing the ground
in submission?
do you know when you get up by the foremost Invitation?
are you aware of moments when tears seem more powerful than words?
verily, those are the times of hardship.

What does my Lord require of me?
why the yearning
why the tired consciousness
why lots of ‘sniffs and sighs’?
truly, the beginning skirts one with anguish
sometimes pierces one with agony

What does my Lord require of me?
Patience.
reflection
over the past misdeeds
and blessings that precede

What does my Lord require of me?
to flee to Him
in Hardship
in Ease
in every season

And you will smile a lot during hardship,
but you will have the best smile at ease.
You will smile a lot during hardship, channelling Patience.
Certainly, Patience is a privilege.
