WHEN THE EARTH REFUSES SILENCE

The ground remembers every foot that trembled,
every voice buried beneath polite applause.
We were taught to bow
to fold like paper into acceptable shapes,
to call survival a privilege.
But something restless lives in the marrow of men
a quiet rebellion stitched into breath.
It hums in crowded lecture halls,
The silence is a slow kind of dying.
Uprisings do not begin with noise.
They begin with questions
small, dangerous things
that slip past fear
and sit heavily on the tongue.
Why must truth whisper?
Why must justice wait its turn?
Why do we inherit chains
and call them tradition?
The first uprising is internal
a breaking of obedience,
a refusal to shrink
for the comfort of others.
Then comes the rising
like dawn forcing its way through stubborn night,
like a river remembering it was never meant
to stay within its banks.
We stand, not because we are unafraid,
but because fear has grown tired of ruling us.
We speak, not because we are loud,
but because silence has betrayed us.
And when we rise
the earth does not shake in anger,
it breathes in relief.
