WHERE HAS THE MODESTY GONE

By Adegoke Rahmah
Where has the modesty gone,
Perhaps to another world.
The streets can attest to this loss.
For every day of the week is a cause to mourn.
Half-stripped girls walk through the street
with no shame all over the week,
causing fitnah with their nakedness
poisoning the eyes of men
with their venom of nakedness.
The soul of a struggling muslim
I wonder how he nurtures it
for every day of the week
His eyes see a lot,
half-stripped women,
half-clothed girls
even the married women
are not left out
Perhaps soon, the old will join
flaunting their beauty
all over the world.
The media are not better either
full of Pornography and shameful pictures,
Stealing the light of the heart
replacing it with a lump of darkness
for those who keep feeding their eyes
with it.
How does the innocent survive
in this desperate world
without losing their faith
or lowering their gaze in vain?
That question lingers in my heart
every day of my life.

A deeply insightful exploration. The balance between academic discipline and spiritual consciousness is precisely what our student body needs today.
Barakallahu feek Brother Ahmad. May Allah grant our youth steadfastness in learning and practice.
Jazakumullahu Khayran to the editorial team. The references from Surah Taha were especially grounding.
