Am I Strong

By Abduljeleel Olanrewaju (ABJ)
Am I strong!
The mind is weak,
and life is mean.
Yet empathy never ceases
but lights like the heartbeat.
Am I strong!
I’ve crossed paths with minds,
minds filled with poison.
Jealousy weakens them.
Yet, in pity, my mind softens.
Am I strong!
Through the dark tunnel, I walk.
Head bowed down, lonely,
looking for an answer in the mist.
Perhaps, at its end, there’s light.
The tunnel lights up—the sky clears.
Empathy is a gift,
given to the strong,
never to the weak.
One emerges like a butterfly
from its rotten casket.
The present seems unfriendly,
but the future is calling.
Do you embrace who you are?
Be strong like the rain.
And never give in
to your awful image.
