Love, The Sweet Trap

By Abduljeleel Olanrewaju (ABJ)
A sweet finger—licked without hesitation,
Tempting the mind to crave again and again.
An unquenchable thirst haunts its keeper,
Anxiety clinging like shadow to flame.
An immobile force moves a human soul,
Its quiet tentacles latch without warning.
It’s sweet—when fingers are crossed in hope,
But bitter when truth picks a side.
It builds the bedrock of fragile trust,
Always banking on hope where there’s no rope.
A silent cell for hearts that yield,
Invisible bars forged by belief alone.
Once the mind opens its doors,
It settles—like morning, quiet but certain.
I only wish I could shut mine tight,
And be free…
from the ache of false hope.
