Spotlights on BROTHERS' FORUM: A Successful Conclusion

Abdulfatah Yussuf

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), University of Ibadan, held its Brothers’ Forum on Saturday, 4th October 2025, at the Pharmacy Auditorium, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan.
‎
‎The program commenced at 10:30 a.m. with a beautiful recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Brother Abdullah Qosim, followed by the opening prayer led by the Naibul Ameer, MSSN UI.

‎The event officially began with a welcome address by the Ameer, Sheikh Umar Farouk Qomarudeen, who emphasized the importance of punctuality and arriving early for programs, using the invited speakers as a practical example for their promptness and commitment.
‎‎The keynote lecture was delivered by Engr. Raji Abdul-Azeez, who addressed the theme of the program — “Book Worm, Life Worm.” He began by dissecting the popular phrase “School na scam”, clarifying misconceptions and highlighting the value of education beyond academics. He emphasized the critical life skills education imparts, such as time and stress management, noting that academic pursuit greatly enhances one’s potential for success.

‎An interlude featured a captivating quiz competition between representatives of various halls of residence. Each participant was tasked with naming a Companion of the Prophet (SAW) before passing it to the next participant. Failure to name one led to eviction from the game. At the end of the lively session, The Great Independence Hall, represented by Brother Oyetunji Abdulsamad, emerged victorious, while Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall secured the first runner-up position.‎

‎The second lecture was delivered by Ameer Ali AbdulSalam, the visionary founder of the Ali Institute of Qur’anic Memorization. He inspired the brothers with a relationship-focused talk, emphasizing the principle that “struggle comes before success.” Drawing from his wealth of experience, he provided valuable guidance and a clear roadmap for the brothers, particularly final-year students, as they prepare for life beyond campus.

‎This was followed by the Chairman’s Speech delivered by Alhaji Saheed Amao, who further reinforced the lessons on building meaningful relationships, sharing personal experiences, and insights.
‎After Solat Dhur, the program transitioned into a panel session featuring distinguished professionals:
‎Mr. Abdulsamad Husayn, a skilled backend developer with expertise in multiple technologies;
‎‎Mr. Olanshile Olanrewaju, a certified JCI Nigeria facilitator, business development manager, and entrepreneur;
‎‎Mr. Sodiq Zakariyah, a treasury analyst at FCMB Group.

‎The panel session, anchored by Brother Bello Abdul Waliy, explored topics such as dedication, self-awareness, business and academic navigation, passion, and career choices. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where the panelists addressed insightful questions from the audience.
‎
The Brothers’ Forum 1447 came to a memorable close with a melodious Qaseedah recitation, followed by the distribution of food packages and souvenirs to participants.
