The Last Break

When my brain felt conceited
And was full of itself
And my limbs thought it had gathered
Myriads of good deeds of the world
And my eyes wanted
To look outside the box
And my mind teased
To try something new
So I took a break
And dived into the unknown, blindly.
Like Aadam and Hawaa
Until I felt as though
I was a stranger
In my own body
And when I stared, I saw nothing
And while I listened, I heard nothing
I was done for!
Alas. I crawled at the threshold of your mercy
And drenched my heart with the tears of my guilt
And repeated to myself
The fifty-third verse of the thirty-ninth chapter
Until my old self
Traveled back home
And I gave a silent solemn promise
That It was going to be the last break, bi idhnillaah.

Jazakumullahu Khayran to the editorial team. The references from Surah Taha were especially grounding.
