YOUR THOUGHT ON UI PHYSICAL RESUMPTION

Fatimah Adetunji and Lawal Ajaroh
On Monday, 17th of May, 2021, the Students’ Union, University of Ibadan (UISU)released a broadcast that the senate members of the university have approved physical resumption and opening of hostels at 50% population capacity.
What was your first reaction to this news? And generally, what do you feel about the “impending” physical resumption?
(Name, department and level written underneath)
“My first reaction: It’s going to be a stressful one. And I’ll have to spend more money on transport. Lastly, I might have to go through some things, because of this resumption, it’s personal to me though. I feel bad about it, very bad. And truly “impending” is fitting for it.”
Oketokun Zaynab.

“I guess we saw it coming, but I’d have preferred if exams were postponed without physical resumption.”
Aminat
Law, 500 level
“I feel pretty cool about the said physical resumption. If covid19 is no more, I were no reason why we should continue virtual learning. Although, the third wave of the pandemic, which is said to be the India type, is what scares me about the physical resumption.”
Usman, Sule Alabi
Science and Technology Education, 400 level
“I wasn’t surprised. Most schools have already resumed physically, because it’s expedient, sequel to the exorbitant money spent on data and tobbe able to finish the syllabus with sound understanding. I think majority of we students look forward to it.”
Oyebode, Mobolaji Saheed
Chemistry, 400 level.
“I was really happy when I read the news.”
“Generally, I am glad we are finally going to resume physically though it’s stressful moving from hostel to different lecture theatres but then, the Isolation and data draining tendencies of online classes is just not it for me.”
Aderohunmu Zainab
Medicine and Surgery, 200 level
“First reaction- As expected and due to resumption of some departments prior to the time, it doesn’t come as a surprise to me.”
“As for the physical resumption (which is likely to be after sorting out accommodation for the students), resuming physically will be okay. Even many students have been wishing for this to occur, but I counted the resumption as a means for UI to conduct C.As and examinations physically.”
Okewale, Olalekan Toheeb

“First reaction: shocked. It was so sudden and in the blink of an eye”
“Latter: It’s a good idea. It’ll do more good than harm. It could be sudden but me thinks it’s betterment is gigantic.”
Odeleke, Shukurat
Science and Technology Education (STE)/Maths, 300level
“Hmm…I was just blank. Like, physical resumption??”
“Imagine all the data I’ve wasted on zoom classes, only for them to resume physically! Okay. But, how will I attend classes báyìí?”
Raji, Maryam
Microbiology, 300 level
“I had mixed feelings 😂. Like I don’t know how I really feel about it, because for my department, there won’t be accommodation for us. So as much as I would have preferred it a bit, where I am going to be staying is quite far so it’s more stressful for me and it’ll result to more transport fare🥺
Akeem-Omosanya, Jelilat
Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), 400 level
” I wasn’t really happy because I’m comfortable with the virtual classes, and that is because they’re less stressful. I feel it’s (the physical resumption) just for tests and revision.
Obadina, Sailat Olaide
Arts and Social Sciences Education (ASE), 200 level
“The physical resumption is good idea. At least, it will save people from the purchase of bulky data and the unseriousness that has entered the bodies of some of us.”
Adeoye, Ridwan
Animal science, 300 level
“I have mixed feelings about the impending physical resumption, actually. Like although, it’s easier to get distracted and online classes are not so effective in terms of assimilation of mathematics-related courses; it has some desirable advantages too. It is less stressful and gives people like me who do not like junks, time to make proper meals.”😂
Taofeeq, Zulaykho
Human nutrition, 300 level
“I’d mixed feelings though quite happier. At least, I could get more serious with studies for this Online class is just totally out of it.”
Olaniyan, Jubril Ademola
Arts and Social Sciences Education, 200 level
“I had mixed feelings. I have always wanted physical classes though – but the online classes were not so bad. Some of the lecturers took their time to explain while some just rushed through some of the courses, but then it’s just somehow that we are getting to start physical classes when exams are in few weeks’ time.”

I will be happier than this because face to face lecture is better than virtual lecture.*
In communication aspects, they categorize a speech delivered into three parts:*
One: Body language it carries 55%
Two: Intonation it carries 35%
Three:Word itself it carries 10%

I feel happy and cheerful because that was my first aim when processing my admission I never thought virtual classes would come up.
SHITTU KHALID, 100L, Department of Arabic and Islamic studies
It has pros and cons, knowing each other is a pros but doing virtual class and physical test is a cheating.
JIMOH SULAIMON ABIOLA, 100L, Department of Arabic and Islamic studies
I don’t feel good about it because we really needed physical resumption ui said no. Now we are already used to the online class they want to start physical after we are almost done with all our course outline.
SHUKURAT, 100L, FALCULTY OF EDUCATION
To be honest, I feel good about it, actually this virtual class is totally nonsense to me like I have to work extra ordinarily after each class in order to get what’s being taught on the either zoom or so called Lms classes. I think no Uite will feel bad about it except if we’re to consider tests, examinations, or maybe stresses involve in physical classes, but that’s normal thing for students nah
MOJEED, 100L, FACULTY OF ART
The profitable part of physical class is that students will be able to study with adequate equipment and also it’s gives room for interaction among the students and the teachers, lastly it doesn’t encourage laziness and procrastination. the students that can’t afford data will be able to attend the classes
AHMOD AJIBADE ASHIM,100L, Department of Arabic and Islamic studies
The approval of the physical class, well it is an avenue for us to meet ourselves, lectures and revise more but, actually I am not okay with it because I have at my mind to next semester for physical resumption, but since it has been approved, it is fine and good, it is for our own benefit, we have to go for it

To be very honest, I am not happy about it, because if eventually they will decide to do physical revision and exams, why will they ask us to do virtual class in the first place?, To be candid Virtual class is for virtual exam because the same set of people that did virtual class will also be the same set of people that will sit for the exam
ABDULRASHEED, 100L, Department of Arabic and Islamic studies
Am Happy we are resuming, Because the virtual class extorted my money
SULAIMON ABDULAZEEZ, 100L, FACULTY OF EDUCATION
About the resumption well I can say I feel good and at the same time I feel bad, as we all know that nothing in this life doesn’t have it own disadvantages so is this online and physical class vice versa. But all the same this is the time we will know ourselves as a bonafide student of the great Citadel of learning, UI!!!!
ABDULMUHEED, 100L, FACULTY OF ART
I don’t really like the idea. When classes were conducted virtually and you are telling us to resume physically now for the exam.just imagine. Buh, ALL WILL BE WELLEVERYTHING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT😎
