INTERVIEW: “Beyond academics, Extramural strengthened my spiritual life through SPD sessions, where we received regular Islamic reminders.” — Taofeek Ayodeji Fawaz

In this interview, Taofeek Ayodeji Fawaz, one of the trailblazers of the MSSN Akinyele Area Council’s Extramural Tutorial Center shared with us his strategies, preparation tips, and how he achieved an outstanding result in the 2025 UTME. Whether you are a current or an aspiring UTME candidate, this interview contains inspiration, practical advice, and real-life insights to guide you on your journey to academic excellence.

Kindly introduce yourself (Full Name, State of Origin, and brief academic background)?
My name is Taofeek Ayodeji Fawaz. I am from Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. I completed my secondary school education in 2019. I have always been determined to improve myself academically and spiritually.

What was your UTME score?
I scored 309 in the 2025 UTME.

Have you gained admission?
Yes, I have gained admission.

State your institution and course of study.
I gained admission into the University of Ibadan to study Dentistry and Dental Surgery. I also scored 79 in the UI Post-UTME.

At what academic level were you before joining the MSSN Akinyele Extramural Class?
Before joining the MSSN Akinyele Extramural class, I would describe my academic confidence as average. I did not have a structured study routine, and I sometimes struggled with consistency and time management.

How did the Extramural classes influence your academic performance and exam readiness?
The Extramural classes greatly improved my understanding of key UTME subjects. Our tutors are top-notch; may Allah ease their affairs. They simplified difficult topics and constantly tested us with questions. This made me more confident.

Beyond academics, how did the Extramural impact your spiritual life and personal discipline?
Beyond academics, Extramural strengthened my spiritual life through SPD sessions, where we received regular Islamic reminders. We were encouraged to rely on Allah, stay disciplined, and maintain good character.

How long did you prepare for the UTME, and what was your daily or weekly study routine like?
I prepared for the UTME for about 3–4 months. I focused on mock tests and the weekly tests held on Fridays.

What study techniques or strategies contributed most to your high score?
My study techniques included constant practice of past questions, group discussions with my friends, and practising with JAMB apps such as Myschool App and 3Thirty, among others.

What advice would you give to students preparing for the upcoming UTME?
My advice to UTME candidates is to start preparing early, practice past questions, focus on understanding rather than cramming, manage your time wisely, stay consistent, be disciplined, and trust Allah’s plan with determination. Allah says, “Whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him.” Pray a lot, because prayer and hard work are essential for success.

Is there any final message you would like to share with aspiring UTME candidates?
Assalamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh (May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you).
